Dear Windowers,

I have heared that MS gives for a limited time updates on it's products. If
I am correct, there is only 5 years general support for the non-business
user, calculated from the release date.
Does this means that for win2000 they do not give out security updates
anymore? Or does this continues for a bit longer?

Grt,

Dear Gibbs,

from the following quote "Microsoft is not ending support for Windows 2000.
During the Extended Support phase, Microsoft continues to provide security
hot fixes..." I get that MS continues security support in the extended
support phase.
But they also mention that extended support phase is for businesses and not
for consumers. So will the security updates also be available for consumer
version of Win2000?

Grt,
Wing

I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

First of all, if you've got all the latest Win2000 updates, AND you've got a
strong firewall, antivirus, and spyware setup, you're in good shape anyway.

Second, if by chance something serious comes up that's a security issue with
Windows 2000, it's a sure P.R. bet that Mictosoft will issue an update, as
they are still doing for Windows 98.

Just remember to always:
- Scan your incoming email
- Scan any files shared to you
- Don't download any new ActiveX
components not from Microsoft or Macromedia

Thx,  if they still release security updates for win2000, I'll install that
insted of winxp, as I'm told winxp is a bit more heavier for my old laptop
(P3 600mhz, 128mb ram).
