The Update for Windows Media Player 9 KB911565 downloads OK but hangs halfway through its install on my system: Windows 2000 professional SP4 + later updates. Has anyone had the same experience and managed to work the problem out? Incidentally downloading the updates and attempting to install them locally doesn't work either. This also applies to 911564. Have just managed to fix this problem by first disabling SynTPEnh.exe and SynTPLpr.exe in the task manager before installing the update. My machine is a dell inspiron portable and it there appears to be a conflict with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers for Win2k. The fact that there are 3 updates which require safe mode to be installed suggests something is amiss with my windows (especially since my other Win2k Box had absolutely no problems at all). I do not use any of the Dell or HP drivers mentioned in this thread - The computer was built from seperate components, and this box has been getting trouble installing other things too. (I am 99.9% certain that I am virus-free - as Trend Housekeeper reports no problems), although I see multiple copies of some .exe files in task manager (including svchost.exe and my firewall) - and am told "Access Denied" whenever I try to choose 'end task' for the additional copies. We had the same problem here on a HP Pavilion N3250; KB911564 would only install about one third of the way, then hang forever. We had to force quit the update process. I followed the advice given to disable the Synaptics Touchpad drivers, and the KB911564 update was run. It worked flawlessly. BTW, I've had other problems with the Synaptics drivers. They can cause problems installing iTunes for Windows. Thanks for the help. Perhaps you should notify Microsoft of this problem. I'm sure it is repeatable. I disabled them and the updates worked like a charm. The drivers work well in regard to the touchpad, but are the first of my "usual suspects" when things start acting strangly on the old HP. > You are a life saver! I discovered that I had to stop the OpenSSH service in order for the update to run. Problem solved. Hope this helps someone.......
