How do I solve error 0x8DDD0009?

It occurs after I press check for updates on the windows update site - I
wait for 15 minutes then this error comes up with the text saying it can't
open the page I want.

It is a method that Microsoft has desvised to ensure that all users' systems
are wide open to attack by out siders.

They do not want users to install any system protection. If your system has
been modified beyond that of a vanilla flavor clean install Microsoft will
refuse to allow you to upgrade using their own published upgrades.

The last time I had this problem the only way to solve it was to buy a new
harddrive, format it, install a virgin copy of W2K, then run the Microsoft
updates.

This worked fine until I installed programs that Mircosoft is apparently
unwilling to premit to be on a wondows based system. These outlawed programs
seem to include Symnatec System Works, AdAware products, ZoneAlarm Products,
Mozilla Products, or anything else that you are unwilling to pay Mircosoft a
$100/week protection ransom for.

Bill Gates and his compnay staff just do not care.

0x8DDD0009 and 0x80072EE2 errors:

Here is some information that may help solve some of the weird problems we
have trying to update/upgrade Window 2000.

I had a spare system that I used to create a bare-bones Windows 2000
Professional installation. The only Windows component installed is Indexing
Service [as listed in the WINDOWS COMPONENTS dialog window from the
Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel window]. This system is behind
an Actiontec Dual PC Modem that includes a hardware firewall.

As soon as I completed the W2K installation I established an internet
connection and selected the Windows Update option from the START menu. I was
routed to an update information page I don't recall having seen before. It
had some interesting and discouraging information regarding W2K support.

This 'new' window is at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/default.mspx
It provides links to several additional W2K update and security resources.

Another possible page for a possible solution might be:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/downloads/win2k.mspx
This page has links to a multitude of downloads.

A third potentially useful site might be:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/current.aspx

I have not yet found the key for the system giving me both 0x8DDD0009 and
0x80072EE2 errors.
I am going to experiment with my ‘virgin’ system to see if I stumble across
anything usefull.

If you find anything that seems to be key please e-mail me at

John, have you tried the suggestions in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836941 yet?   Since you state you are
behind a hardware firewall, my first guess would be that something in that
firewall configuration is blocking parts of what is needed for WU/MU to
function.

I'd recommend you manually download/install SP4 (if you haven't already) and
the Rollup 1 for SP4 package to get your Win2000 "reasonably" current.
Those updates may also help with the errors you are getting.   Then visit
the v6 version of the WU site and verify that the ActiveX controls install
correctly through your configuration.

Just a shot. :)
