I have recently discovered a problem on one of my domain controllers.
It is running Windows 2000, with latest service pack.
Any time I try to install something requiring the Windows Installer,
the Configuring Windows Installer popup comes up and just sits there.
I have to kill off the process in taskmgr to get it to disappear. I
also find myself freezing up on the Windows Update website. It freezes
when I click on either Express or Custom.
I have tried updating to the latest scripting engine from Microsoft
(5.6) however that was of no help.
Any assistance will be much appreciated.
This could be a corrupted Windows Installer, or it could be that you
upgraded your WIv3.1 very soon after it was released, which has been
re-released a few times since then.
I'd suggest uninstalling Windows Installer 3.1, then download the Windows
Installer 3.1v2 package and reinstall the Windows Installer.

The Microsoft Download Center... at http://download.microsoft.com
The "More Popular Downloads" link under "Popular Downloads" will list it.
It's located at
