A few weeks ago we started having problems with our mail boxes locking up.
It turned out to be some emails (always with a pdf or jpg attachment) -
deleting the emails freed the mail box. I am not sure of the exact date
because the problem is intermittent (in that it only happens when one of
these files arrives in someone's inbox - about once a week), but could
coincide with the sep 13th security rollup.

Additionally, now it seems that there are problems with downloading pdf
files too - you click on the link and it says "done" but nothing happens
(sometimes if you click on the link a second time it opens OK). My offline
copies of the files open fine.

these problems occur consistently on all of our Win 2000 servers, but not on
win 2003. servers are all regularly patched and run SP4.

has anyone had the same problem or got any idea how to fix it? if
uninstalling a security patch is the answer is there an alternative way to
beat the relevant security holes?

thanks in advance.

Hi;

This sounds like a Microsoft Update issue where the Outlook Junk package
got updated and reverted system settings to forbid certain file
extensions.

I recommend you file a case report on this with MS.
