What happened to the background on menu text?

The latest round of XP Windows updates caused the background on Win32
application menus to turn from grey to white.

The menu I'm refering to is the one you see on most applications that looks
something like this:

File  Edit View Help

The background on these titles used to be grey, now it's white.

So the background for the text no longer matches the background for the
menu, so it looks like the text is in a white box on the menu. This has
happened on just about all the applications I have.

What happened?

It's still the same color here. Perhaps it's a resource issue? You might try
in an XP group though or in the general update group though, that might get
you a better answer.
