I can't get the updates for Windows 2000 Datacenter edition. I am a novice
(Windows update does not work and i don't know how to use the supplied
alternative

Okay, let's start at the top? What sort of errors are you getting? You say
you can not use Windows Update? Why not? As for this alternative you speak
of (perhaps BigFix?) what is it that you're trying to use? Sometimes the
Windows Update site has been a bit buggy with certain PC configurations and
while I'm certainly not really a 2k guru I've encountered a number of these
errors on my own and read the troubleshooting pages more than enough times
for both of us. <g>
