Which Updates To Install?

I'm a little overwhelmed by the number of updates for W2K. I've
already installed SP4 and the one for IE5 since I haven't updated to 6
yet. What else do I need to install? I have a router and a software
firewall and antivirus protection and various anti spyware utilities
so I'm a little hesitant to install the entire shebang. My machine is
running well now after several incidents where I had to reinstall W2K
and I'm not so sure it wasn't because of the massive amount of W2K
updates I installed in my machine.

Hi;

I suggest going to Windows Update, do a full scan, and then install just the
Critical/Security updates. I realize there are several of those, so you may
want to install 3-4 at a time (unselecting the others) then do a Restart of
the system before going back for the next batch.

Thank you for the reply. The reason I am asking is because I had
previously installed nearly all the updates except for the ones that
stated they could not be uninstalled. One in particular was screwing
with my ability to print in Photoshop so I uninstalled it which led to
a total system crash and the need to reinstall W2K. I believe it was
KB835732. I do have a router and a software firewall and there are 40
updates which seems like 40 odd chances to screw up a computer.
Normally I would just do the installs, but after my last experience
I'm hesitating as removal of an update that might be troubling could
lead to negative consequences.

The only Critical update that I'm aware of that creates problems is
KB891711. Microsoft has been strangely silent about the issues with it
however. If you are getting reboots randomly, 891711 is the culprit.

Don't use IE6 and change to Firefox and most of the updates are not
necessary
