Blue screen after SP4 update

My W2K with SP4 was working well until I decided to reinstall W2K's original
service disc.  The SP1 version was installed OK.  But when I update it to SP4
using the web or the CD-ROM, blue screen occurred during re-start with error
message such as BATTC.SYS device driver cannot be loaded.

I have two drives, but the C drive was formatted by the W2K disc before
installation.  Tries so many times, still blue screen.

Without the SP4, I can't get IE6 and Adobe installed.  Any help?

Are you connected to the internet with a firewall?  Could
be a worm that is getting at the system before the updates
are done.
