Kernel error after update

I was doing a windows update last night, and my computer
froze.  I had to hit the power button to overcome.

Upon rebooting I get "unexpected kernel mode trap" and then
it attempts to restart again.

I am able to boot into safe mode with networking, and in
this mode I was able to do the windows update.

I cannot get it to boot normally - above error continues.

What to do?

Windows 2000 - SP4

Login as local admin
Control Panel/Add Remove Software
Remove the Microsoft update  KB840987
Close and restart.
It's a conflict with the nvidia tnt driver.

Anthony, thank you very much.  My computer is back to normal!

However, is there anything I can do?  840987 is a
'critical' update.  I assume I shouldn't be without it.
