I subscribe to Windows Update and always install the critical updates when
they appear. However, one of them started to seem familiar:
KB819696. When I checked with the website I find that I've installed it no
less than six times. It just arrived on my screen again today, even though I
always get the safely installed message. Anybody know what's going on?

I'm having the same problem, except it's Security Update
811493 that I've erroneously installed about 10 times
now.  What's the deal?

After a bit of intensive googling,I might be able to answer my own question
(and yours). Look at this Windows article.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829778

It involves downloading a new copy of DiectX.
