I installed the same Crit Update (KB832483 about 2Mb
download) 6 times (thats what it took me to mention I am
installing the same thing over and over) and it still
shows up after I scan for updates. Why does it keep
showing up?

Happening to me as well, on all of my machines running
win2k.  I cannot find anything from Microsoft to suggest
they are even aware of the problem.  It may just be
something they are doing to encourage updating to a new
windows platform, but I doubt it, because there is nothing
yet to take 2k's place.  I would love to hear if any of
you figure this one out!

There has been a good amount of conversation about this on the newsgroups
and the workaround has been posted a number of times.  The problem is being
fixed at the moment and should be published shortly, I hope.

The patch is for MDAC 2.52, 2.53, 2.62, 2.70, 2.71 or 2.80 so if you want to
upgrade to one of those versions that should fix the problem for you.
Updating to 2.8 is recommended.
Otherwise you will have to set WU to ignore the update until the fix is
published.

Yup, yup!! Hope MS is scanning this.  Doesn't apply to all W2K machines, but
is driving one user crazy.

I had this problem and found that this update only works with certain
version of the Microsoft MDAC.  The easiest way to solve this problem is to
install the latest version of MDAC, version 2.8.   You can find it at:
