Are there any Win2k (sp4+) updates known to mess up acess to Network
settings? (see list below)

When I navigate to
Settings -> Network & Dialup connection-> Local area Connection

and choose properties, I can no longer see (or configure) my tcp/ip
settings (I am logged on as Adm). All I can see is

*    Client for Microsoft Networks
*    File and Printer Sharing

(and for both of those the properties button is grayed out. And the
name for the network card does not show there either, while it does
under Properties for the network card - which seems to work.).

I can not see, as expected
*    Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Still network works fine, meaning my broadband connection is up an
running as usual (posting this now). I just can not configure it.
Nor do I seem able to add/remove network components or protocols,
because in the end windows complains bout some registry key or file
missing (without saying what or where).

So far I have a) reinstalled Win2k with Sp4 (slipstreamed) - but that
did not help, so I assumed it had something to do with file
permissions gone bad (inherited by the new install). But instead of
searching high and low - I went off and b)restored the entire system
partition (not simple file copy, but partition copy) from backup (from
October 15). Now things is - the problem is the same, I still can not
get to my tcp/ip settings as explained above (like where you enter DNS
servers and so on).

Any of these hot-fixes know to produce effects/errors of the kind I
have mentioned? Or should I look elsewhere for the problem?
