This update is supposed to fix a problem that when one
restarts the computer it hangs up and screen goes blank.
If one tries to shut down the computer, screen goes blank,
but computer does not power off. One must then manually
power down the computer by holding down the power on/off
button. With the restart problem one must also manually
power off the PC and then manually restart it. THIS
PROBLEM BEGAN AFTER I INSTALLED THE CRITICAL SECURITY
UPDATES FROM MICROSOFT IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER 2003. Now
things are in a mess! What to do?!?

I immediately got hard disk errors after installing KB820888.  I fixed these NTFS
corruption problems by uninstalling KB820888.  I ran chkdsk afterwards and ended up with
bad sectors marked on my disk, but it is working normally now.
