Hi

i have recently had a TS server running 2000 and its been fine, until
recently i receive the problem with licensing protocol, but my clients are
using XP PRO, which should be fine for CAL's, cause my clients are XP Pro i
dont have license server installed, would i still require one? would this be
the problem? i also have a W2003 Server, and i know the licenses have
changed, would this affect the XP users at all?

Yes, you need a TS Licensing Server.
Your XP Pro clients do *not* have a TS CAL build-in, but thet receive
one for free from the TS Licensing Server, once it is installed and
activated.

Note that the free TS CAL *only* can be used when you connect to a
W2K TS, not to a 2003 TS. A 2003 TS requires 2003 TS CALs on a 2003
TS Licensing Server.

can you setup a license server without entering any licenses, as the xp and
win2k machines obtain free ones.

Another sperate question, if i had a 2003 terminal license server, with 2003
cals would these TS cals work ok in conjunction with the 2000 TS Server???

Sure. Just install the LS and activate it. No need to install
licenses.

And yes, a 2003 TS Licensing Server is backwards compatible, so it
can also hand out the free W2K TS CALs for your XP Pro clients (if
they connect to a W2K TS). Can also issue 2003 TS CALs to clients,
if no W2K TS CALs are available. This is configurable.
