temp licenses for TS

I had to run a restore (w2k3) on a machine which had been activated and
running w/o any license issues.  I called the Clearinghouse and reactivated
the server and the licenses that had been purchased and the licenses showed
up so I figured everything was ok.  A couple of users have notified me that
they are getting license expiration messages.  When I looked into the
licensing I found that the temp licenses had been issued to everyone.  Does
the licensing server run through the temp license for each user and then
issue a registered license?  Is there something that needs to be done w/ the
clients?  This is a very simple setup, no domains or active directory.

TIA

So the Terminal Server and the TS Licensing Server are running on the
same physical server, is that correct? And it is a standalone server
in a workgroup?
Which type of TS licenses did you install, Per User or Per Device?
Have you checked the licensing mode of the TS?
Anything in the EventLog?

Yes both are on the same machine and running as workgroup.  After I posted I
did noticed that the installed licenses were per user but the server mode was
per device.  I changed the server mode back to per user but have not been
able to get back to check on that or to look at the logs.

TIA

OK, then the problem should be solved now, with the licensing mode
on the TS matching the type of licenses you have installed.

I've rebooted the server last night and this AM the TS licensing mgr said the
40 purchased CAL's were "Not Applied".  Is this normal ( I did not notice
what it said before the restore) or will the server just start issueing
licenses on it's own schedule?

TIA

It says N/A under "Issued", correct?
That means Not Applicable, and that's correct. Since Per User TS
CALs are currently unmanaged, the "Issued" count will not
increment, and the "Available" count will not decrement.

You will have to keep track of the number of connecting users by
hand. Documented here:
