George Schneider - 19 Jul 2008 00:58 GMT
I'm running into a robelm when I attempt to install 2.8 SP1 on a Windows 2000
Professional machine.  'm receiving an Advanced Inf Installer pop up box
stating INF Installer failure. Reason: Access is denied.  Any idea on this or
how I can resolve it to get MDAC 2.8 SP1 on W2K installed.  I need it for one
of my applications to install.
DL - 21 Jul 2008 00:06 GMT
Are you installing from an account with admin rights?

I've tried as both a domain admin and local admin with the same result.

I've never seen that.
Unfortunately I no longer have access to a win2k PC, but when I was running
one I had no problems with 2.8spi
Perhaps uninstall the data access components then install 2.8spi?

The in-place upgrade should sort it.

Morgan che(MSFT) - 28 Jul 2008 12:12 GMT
Hi,

Based on my research, some customers encounter the similar issue and they
solve it by performing the steps below. Please test it on your side and let
me know the result:

1)Try to install MDAC using the LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR account
2)Delete the registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Exception
Componens

Note: Please understand that this method is related to the operation of
registry, and may lead to the serious problems. Please ensure that you do
appropriate backup before you modify any registry key.

3)Verify if the folder C:\WINNT\INF is 'read-only'. If so, please remove
the 'read-only' option for the folder and it's subfolders.

If this issue still persists, please run process monitor tool to monitor
the process of MDAC 2.8 SP1 installation, which you can download at:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

When error message occurs during installation, please stop process monitor
tool and save the log file in File column and send it to me via
tfwst@microsoft.com

Note:

a. Please include the following tow lines for this issue in the email body:

MDAC 2.8 SP1 Error
Morgan- MSFT

b. We will continue to discuss the issue here in the Newsgroup and will NOT
reply via emails.

c. Pease post a quick note in the current thread to inform me after sending
the email.

Thanks

Sincerely
Morgan Che
