A record exists on a node, but nodes can have multiple records on it. Some
record types can not exist on a node with other record types. For example,
you can only have one CNAME on a node, and you cannot have a CNAME on the
same node with an A or MX record. But you can have multiple A and MX records
on a single node.

Kevin, I found this explanation elsewhere on google,
according to this my records should be equal to or greater then my
nodes. is this correct. I have another log entry that shows the
following
Event Type: Information
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2501
Date: 5/28/2007
Time: 4:50:12 PM
User: N/A
Computer: ISMSD02
Description:
The DNS server has completed a scavenging cycle:
Visited Zones = 54,
Visited Nodes = 6242,
Scavenged Nodes = 74,
Scavenged Records = 21.
is this saying there is not a record for every node? there were 74
Scavenged Nodes, but only 21 Scavenged Records.
Rick.
Visited Nodes = 3485,
A DNS node is equivalent to a DNS name. This is the number of DNS
names
that were examined during the scavenging pass.
Scavenged Nodes = 412,
This is the number of DNS names that had records deleted during the
scavenging
pass.
Scavenged Records = 553.
This is the number of DNS records deleted during the scavenging pass.
This
number is higher than "scavenged nodes" because multiple records were
deleted at some names.

That would seem to be what it is saying, which doesn't sound right, It would
seem to say you had nodes without records. Could it be that you had sub
domains without records in them?

This would be more in the ball park with 553 records scavenged on 412 nodes.
