I have Virtual Server installed on a Windows 2003 server but the VMRC server
won't start. The error message says that "Virtual Server could not start the
VMRC server. Another server may be using the selected TCP/IP port."
netstat confirms that nothing is using port 5900 and I get the same message
whatever port I attempt to use for VMRC.
Has anyone else experienced this or knows what could be causing this
behaviour?

Do you have a VNC server installed on the host computer?  If so - it
will conflict.

Thanks Ben,

I haven't consciously installed VNC server so unless it is part of the OS I
don't think I have it on the machine.

See http://www.aspdeveloper.net/tiki-view_blog_post.php?blogId=4&postId=8
for instructions on how to find what task is using the port.

Thanks Steve,

Unfortunately, as mentioned in the opening message, netstat confirms that
nothing is using port 5900.
