Current setup; SBS 2000 exchange running SMTP mail; Most recently this client of mine was logge
in 2k pro client; lost network drives....entire office did.  She attempted to log into the server but di
not recongize one of the letters of the Administrator's password.  She mentioned that she only trie
it twice before she received an error 533; unable to log on.  533!! account disable!! I didn't think tha
you could disable the admin account.  OKAY....I arrive on scene and sure enough this error keeps m
from logging in as administrator or by back-up administrator account.  When it logs in I get a messag
stating that I've been logged in a "default" account because the account I want to log into is DISABLED
Need help ASAP Please.  I really do not want to reinstall this server at all.  ALSO while in this "default"
account, I tried to reset the admin password....nope same error.  PLEASE ADVISE... TI

This sounds weird... AFAIK the Administrator accound cannot be locked out
(on the server). You are not doing this remotely? right?

Can you post the exact error (the one with the default)?

According to technet, 533 is not lockout - it's "User not allowed to logon
at this computer."  Could this be an issue of trying to use a local
administrator password on a network administrator account or vice versa?

Event ID: 533 (0x0215)
      Type: Failure Audit
Description: Logon Failure
Reason: User not allowed to logon at this computer
            User Name: %1              Domain: %2
Logon Type: %3             Logon Process: %4
Authentication Package: %5 Workstation Name: %6

No, This is the admin account for the server, not for any other workstation.

Thanks for responding!!  Error with both administrator's and backup account - Unable to log you on error 533; contac
your system administrator.  No, I'm onsite after client was unable to resolve issue trying to reboot the server
After I power down the server and attempt to log in with either account I get this error
unable to log you on; you have been logged on using a default account; DETAILS: account is disable

I wish I could be more helpful with this.  You're right - built in accounts
(such as the Administrator account) can not be disabled.  I just confirmed
this by trying it on my SBS.

If it lets you log in with a "default" account, can you go to AD users and
computers to enable the disabled accounts?  Are there any errors logged?
(If you can't get into the server, can you access the logs from a
workstation?)

Dave - thanks for responding... I was finally able to log into this box....
Prior to that, the most interesting thing was occuring; the administrator account and my backup admin
account showed that they were NOT disable, locked or anything at all... Confused....
As of right now, I am able to get into this machine, but the event viewer gave an error; "event view is
corrupt"....WHAT!
Not sure at this point; people are able to send/receive mail and get to the network drives..maybe its okay??
Any insight would be GREAT!

Thanks,
A

Hi A,

Have a look at article 172156 and maybe 829246 (which is a hotfix you'll
need to call PSS for).

A - what was that exact error message?  That error message is not
googling at all.  I'd run a a/v scan on this little guy just to be safe.

Okay some new developments.....I was able to log into the server without getting any errors.  However
the event viewer is now saying that its corrupt.....so I cant view any errors as to why this server is acting up
Please, any advise would be greatly appreaciated
