I want to switch out a client to another client.  Bottom
line, A person left with a fast machine, I want to give a
member already listed that same machine.  When I try to
set them up on this WIN2kPro machine, it says "User
already exists".
How do I rename that client machine.

disjoin the faster computer from the domain and join a workgroup.
if you want to name the faster computer the same name as slower computer
then also disjoin the slower computer from the domain and join it to
workgroup, then rename it.
remove any information in AD about the original computer "name".

Then rename the faster computer, then rejoin it to the domain
