Dear All,

I am wondering if someone could shed some light on this
problem, one of our Win2k clients have a user - Billg and
as per all other domain users the Client setup disk set 2
shortcuts on the desktop for the Home and Company Shared
Folders.

We had to remove his profile from the Win2k client as an
application was playing up when he logged on, after
deleting the profile from the client, then logging back on
to create a new Profile.  The shortcuts have now been
removed is their a where to get these back?  What set
these up in the first place?  My login script does not map
these drives as i get a system error 53 can anyone help!!

Kind Regards

You can just r-click on the windows desktop and create a new shortcut to the
folder's UNC name.  For example, \\sbsname\company or
\\sbsname\users\username.  They don't need to be mapped to drive letters.

Did you previously move the User Shared Folders and/or Company folder on the
SBS server from their original locations on the C: drive (maybe to another
partition)?

Answer to your question kind of, i moved the location on
install, but this is strange.  When i add new users and
client PC's with the Add Computer Network Disk this puts
the short cuts on the desktop but if the PC has been
either removed from the domain and then re-added or if the
user's profile has been deleted the short cuts do not get
added - this is very strange any ideas!

thanks

If you set up the user (who has been either previously removed from the
domain or who's profile has been deleted from the local workstation) on
another workstation, do the shortcuts appear?

Thanks for the promopt reply and no the shortcuts do not
reappear which is the wired part.  Not even on a different
workstation, on that first time?

When you added the user back to the workstation, did you use the Specify
User page to add the user?  I think this *should* setup the user again on
the local workstation.  Haven't played with this, so can't advise you much
further.  Normally, I just do as Dave suggests and recreate the shortcuts
manually.

Add a User to an Existing Client
You can assign multiple users to one client computer on a Small Business
Server network. This is done so that the assigned users are added to the
local administration group on a Windows 2000 Professional or Windows NT
Workstation 4.0 client computer. When a user is a member of the local
administration group and is logged on at the client computer, this user has
the explicit permissions necessary to install Small Business Server client
applications locally. You can add users to existing client computers by
using the Networking Setup Disk on the client computer either during the
initial setup or at a future date. The Specify User page enables you to
select a name from the Users list and move it to the Assigned Users list for
the existing client computer. Once Users are added to the Assigned User list
they will be able to log on to the local computer as local administrators.
This gives the added user rights to add Small Business Server software to
the computer, with full administrative rights to the local machine.

NOTE:  It is not necessary to add a user to an existing client in order for
the user to log on to the Small Business Server 2000 network. That is
because the user logon to the network occurs at the domain level, not at the
local computer level.

Add Software to an Existing Client
Small Business Server enables you to add software to an existing client
computer easily. To do so, perform the following steps.

To add software to an existing client

From the Small Business Server Administrator Console, click Favorites, Small
Business Server Tips.
Click Add Software to Computer.
The Set Up Computer Wizard starts, enabling you to add software to existing
client computers. Complete each page as directed by the onscreen
instructions.
Click Finish after completing the pages of the Set Up Computer Wizard.
The next time the user logs onto the client computer, App Launcher will ask
the user to start installation of the new software.

To remove applications from a client computer

Use the Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel.
