Backup Issue

Interesting Situation...Running SBS 2000.  I recently did
a check on the backup logs; BACKUP - TOOLS - REPORT; and
found that the only log I have is from 10-24-03.  Unless
I overlooked something, I thought that this was the place
to check the status of a backup job.  So I looked under
the scheduled jobs and looked at the properties;
everything seemed fine.  The only change that I can think
that was most recently done was the Administrators
password was changed on 10-29; that should not have
caused the backup log to go away...?  I also moved back
the backup time by 1/2 hour on 11-28 and updated the
login password.  Questions 1; Is this server being backup
and the logs are not visable?  Q2; If it is not being
backed up should I delete the scheduled jobs and start a
new one?  Q3; other options?
Thanks in advance!

I'd also check the event log and see if your backup is failing.

Did you use the administrator account to schedule the backups?  If so, I'm
thinking you need to change the password for the scheduled backup routine
whenever you change the administrator password.

That was my thinking, but I changed the password on a
Tuesday night and the Monday before is missing also..  I
updated the scheduled job Friday and there is not log for
Friday's job...at least not in the BACKUP-TOOLS-REPORT..
Any other thoughts?

Do a search on the server for backup??.log (there should be 10 of these if
everything is working properly).  The default location (if using the
Administrator's account for scheduling backups) is:

<system root>\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data

There should also be listings in the Event Viewer...Application Logs, with a
source of "ntbackup" to show when the backup started and when it ended.  If
there were any errors, they may also show up in the event logs.

If this still doesn't point to the problem, create a separate small backup
(just a folder or two) and schedule it to run 10 minutes from now.  Log off
and then see what happens.
