Hi people

The latest in a long line of disasters with my email system has just hit me.
I am getting no mail in (or out, I think) and the Event Viewer reports -

Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date:  30/10/2003
Time:  18:20:01
User:  N/A
Computer: SERVER01
Description:
The Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service failed to start due to the
following error:
The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not
implement the service.

Also failing to start is the IMAP4 and POP3 service and the applications log
is full of warnings like the following:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store
Event Category: Logons
Event ID: 1022
Date:  30/10/2003
Time:  10:20:39
User:  N/A
Computer: SERVER1
Description:
Logon Failure on database "First Storage Group\Private Information Store
(SERVER01)" - Windows 2000 account NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM; mailbox
/o=SERVER/ou=SERVER01/cn=Recipients/cn=Administrator.
Error: -2147221231

I have tried to sort this out by reconfiguring the server using ICW but that
falls over trying to configure exchange server. Oddly, it tells me the error
is logged in ICW.txt but the last few lines if that says:

calling spADs->PutEx (ADS_PROPERTY_CLEAR,
msExchSmtpOutboundSecurityPassword).
Call to spADs->PutEx () returned ok.
calling spADs->SetInfo ().
Call to spADs->SetInfo () returned ok.

I suspect this is a self-inflicted injury. My boot partition is 4Gb but is
practically full (was down to 95Gb at one point). I'm desperately trying to
free up space and I thought I could move Inetpub to another drive with loads
of free space. Indeed, IIS is pointed at the G: drive anyway.So... I deleted
Inetpub on C: and this seems to be the start of my troubles :-{{ It looked
to me like all those files were on G: anyway but maybe not. I tried removing
and reinstalling IIS but that hasn't fixed it.

Now I'm thinking I shall have to remove and reinstall the Exchange Server
component of SBS.  So my question is:

a)    Am I write that I have done this to myself?
b)    Is there a cure other than reinstall - and will reinstall cure it
anyway?
c)    Will a reinstall overwrite my current datafiles and any configuration
stuff?
d)    I've done a full back up of system state and Exchanger server files?
e)    If I am deleting it, can I reinstall to a different, bigger drive
(exchange datafiles are already on drive G:

A quick response would very helpful as I can't leave this so I am going to
have to try it anyway - unless I get a prompt message telling me not to.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

Hello Paul,

Please take a look at the following article:

277770 Event 7000 Occurs When Attempting to Start Exchange Services
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=277770

I have seen the behavior several times and this is usually the resolution.
