Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has migrated from Windows 2000 Small Business
Server to the full product version. I have an active directory domain and
have reached the 50 workstation maximum. I do not want to goto SBS 2003 as I
will outgrow the 75 limit soon.

Please help.

look at sbsmigration.com
same principles apply

normally you could do this with the Transition Pack for SBS but it is no longer available for SBS 2000

Thanks Cris,

Does this mean I can add a 2000 server to the SBS domain, install AD and then turn off SBS 2000 and seize the FSMO roles ?

Is there an article or paper on doing this ?

Regards

First of all, I highly appreciate if you could specify the term "to the full product version" ???? Are you refering the Standard Version of Windows Server 2000 ??? Because as far as I can remember , SBS 2000 is also a full retaail and Product version .. :)

-- Yes, you can bring in a Standard Windows Server 2000 to the SBS Domain
- Replicate AD / by running dcpromo
- Once completed, reboot.
- Seize FSMO Roles to the new Server, Transfer GC

Please refer to the KB below :

How to view and transfer FSMO roles in the graphical user interface

The "growth exit route" from SBS2000 was the Migration Pack, but that's no
longer available.

There is the Transition Pack available for SBS2003, which accomplishes the
same result. But obviously, you have to be on SBS2003 to take advantage of
it.

Your alternative option is to use standard methods to swing your AD domain
and anything else you want to keep out of SBS onto new hardware (possibly
recycling the SBS hardware in the process). This does mean buying all new
licences and CALs from scratch, and discarding your SBS licences.
