We are getting the following error every 5 minutes in the DNS log:

Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    DNS
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    4000
Date:        3/30/2006
Time:        11:35:41 AM
User:        N/A
Computer:    GVFC-SBSERVER
Description:
The DNS server was unable to open Active Directory.  This DNS server is
configured to obtain and use information from the directory for this zone and
is unable to load the zone without it.  Check that the Active Directory is
functioning properly and reload the zone. The event data is the error code.

I have checked the settings as outlined in Article #884499 and all appears OK.

We are running behind a Comcast router.

Ipconfig reports:

Also DNS' simple query test fails.

Suggestions please.

both NIC should point ONLY to the internal IP address for DNS.

The comcast DNS servers, or IP of your router, should be supplied as
forwarders during the ICW.

Thanks for the reply.

Reran Wizard.  Now have both NICs pointing only to 192.168.16.2 for DNS and
10.1.10.1 and 208.39.158.2 listed as forwarders in the DNS.  Still getting
failure on the DNS test.

just to be sure, you originally had two problems

Event log error.
DNS query failure.

Are you suggesting the event log error no longer occurs?

Yes.  And I think I found the other problem, or at least its gone away to the
extent that DNS now passes both simple and recursive tests.  The Cable NIC
was first in the binding order.  Once I placed the local NIC 1st it passed
the tests.

Thanks for your help and time.

no sweat, yes, the binding order would have been my next stop.

Happy SBSing.
