Hello
I was hoping someone could help me out with a fairly basic query I had
regarding MX records.
We have a Sharepoint 2007 running on a Windows 2003 box,
myserver.kam.com, that we'd like to configure to send/ receive emails.
As instructed, we have installed IIS SMTP virtual server on the box.
The application has been configured to receive inbound mails on
sharepoint@myserver.kam.com
Our domain is kam.com and we use Exchange 2003 for messaging.
My question is, if we sent an email to sharepoint@myserver.kam.com,
will it be routed through to the Sharepoint application, or do we need
to specifically set up an MX record pointing myserver.kam.com to
myserver.kam.com?
I'm not too sure how mail delivery works if an MX is the same as an A
record. Does an MX still need to be specified?
Hope someone can help!

No.
The SMTP RFC specifies that the A record will be the "implicit MX" if
there is no MX record. (Still best practice to have an MX record to
indicate that a domain is expected to receive mail, but not
necessary.)
