I think ftp/ssl is a great idea and can't wait to see it on IIS7, what
about IIS6?
Are there any options?

Thanks

We user FTP Guardian for IIS6. Running on a Windows server it also
provides ftp/ssl protection for our linux
boxes.

For IIS 6, and Windows XP, Vista and Server 2003 in general, there is no
in-built support for FTP over SSL (what some people refer to as "FTPS"), and
Microsoft have not declared any interest in back-porting the downloadable
IIS 7 FTPS-capable server to those platforms.

You have two options:

1. Switch to a different FTP server - one that is not coupled so tightly to
the operating system, one that can remain current with new technologies and
developments without requiring at the same time that you update your
operating system. I write WFTPD and WFTPD Pro for Texas Imperial Software,
and WFTPD Pro will fit your requirement of FTPS support. There are, of
course, many other FTPS servers, and you should try them to see which will
support your systems and usage.

2. Install an FTPS proxy or tunnel. This will sit between the outside world
and your FTP server, and will intercept and decrypt the FTPS traffic before
forwarding it to your IIS (or other) FTP server. I haven't tried any of
these, so I don't know how well they work.

You can find links to some implementations of FTPS (client, server,
proxy/tunnel) at http://www.ford-hutchinson.com/~fh-1-pfh/ftps-ext.html

Alun.
