Hi

I checked www.iis.net, noticed that only Windows 20008 and Windows Vista
were mentioned as platforms for IIS 7.  But, because I know I'll be asked,
can IIS 7 also run on Windows 2003 or Windows XP?

Thanks!

If you are running XP Pro, you can run the built-in IIS ftp component via
add/remove windows component.

FileZilla might be a good alternative - it's simple, light-weight and
open-source:

Otherwise, take a lot at the Wikipedia list of FTP server deamons:

Cheers.

Is there a technical reason ? Or is it a marketing decision ?

A little of both.

The decision is made early on in the project as to whether to bundle it with
the OS, and make it one of the "benefits of membership", or whether to
supply it as a separate application, capable of running on multiple systems.

Of course, there's a higher cost to be had when building an application to
run on multiple systems, so that's a consideration as well.

Alun.
