Reading mail database (.edb) files

Hi,

Is there anyway to read mail messages from edb files?

My objective is to do exchange replica (CCR or LCR) and it will create a
passive copy of exchange database.

I want to import properties of mail message from this passive copy of
database into my own storage location. The storage location can be either SQL
Server or any 3rd party database.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

this is not possible due to the fact that the EDB file format is not public.

however, the guys from Ontrack have a program called PowerControls which
does just that - but it's for recovery purposes.

That said, you should look at other mechanisms to access the store (like
Exchange WebService or MAPI).

Kind regards,
Henning Krause

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

but how Ontrack powercontrols is reading mails from .edb file. Are they
using RSG mechnisms.

As you mentioned in the previous reply, other mechanisms like WebDav,MAPI
requires mounted database. Can I connect or open a un-mounted database and
access mail items.

Can I access this database using JET APIs?

Hi,

Jet relies on the ExOleDB driver which also requires a mounted store.

Hi,

I don't know how OnTrack accomplishes this. I guess they have
reverse-engineered the database format.

And yes, all other methods require a mounted store - there is no official
way to do this offline.

Kind regards,
