Setup - Windows 2003 forest/single domain without Exchange in SiteA
NT4 domain with Exchange 5.5 in SiteB (5000 users)

problem - If I migrate the 5.5 user accounts to the AD but leave their
mailboxes (no other choice) in the old environment, will they still be able
to access them ?......or am i missing something. There will be a trust
between NT and the AD forest.....but do i need anythin else? - Note that
Exchange 5.5 will be phased out and the replacment is not from MS........not
my decision honest!

It will continue to work as long as you pay attention to the trust
configuration and name resolution.
I've done it several times in the past without issue.
