One of our clients is using Exchange 2000, and we just installed it on a
second server for quick disaster recovery.  We want the second server to be
completely identical, so when one goes down, network users can retreive their
mail from the other one instantaneously.  I was able to set the public
mailboxes to automatically replicate to the other server, but I can't figure
out how (or if it's possible) to set up automatic replication of private
mailboxes.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

The replication of the mailstore is not possible. If the chance of a
disaster, you'd have to restore the database or server depending on what
type of outage it is. If immediate mail service is needed, you can use the
Dial-Tone Method to get the user operational while you recover the
databases.

Below covers everything you need to prepare for an Exchange Disaster.

You better implement a cluster.

You should look in to implementing a cluster if your service level
agreements for restoring mail in the event of a disaster are that
short. Or, in the alternative, you can look at a product like
Double-Take that will replicate the mail store to another server and
then fail it over based on criteria that you set.
