Hello All,

Could someone tell me which scenario is correct as well as more secure:

A.      Firewall --> ISA ---> SMTP Virtual Server --> Exchange

<OR>

B.      Firewall --> SMTP Virtual Server --> ISA ---> Exchange

If the email is going through ISA to SMTP how can I verify that SMTP is
receiving the email first before exchange?  What type of test can I run to
verify this?

The scenario I have is that all the ports for receiving email are forward to
ISA IP address and nothing is to the gateway.  From ISA all the firewall
policy in reference to email is forwarded to the exchange IP address.

From the above scenario, where should the IP address of the SMTP be placed.

Your help is greatly appreciated...

Thank you.

I *think* you're asking about the DNS records and how you should configure
your A RR and MX RR correct?

The external interface of the firewall would be the normal address published
if that's what you're asking.

As for whether to put a SMTP VS or ISA first, I'm not sure I understand that
question. Can you elaborate?
