I currently use Imail with about 500 email accounts of the same domain on it.
I've purchased exchange and would like to use it for aprox 25 of the 500
users (I can only afford 25 cals).

Where would I place the exhange server?

In front and forward anything it can't resolve to Imail or the other way
around? Also, Imail hosts other domains but exhange will only be handling a
few of the one domain.

If Imail will have bulk of the recipients, it makes sense to place Imail in
front (receive inbound mail first), imo. Assuming Imail has the capability
to share the smtp/dns address-space, and can forward recipients not found in
its system to Exchange server instead.
