I this is elementary, but can 1 Exchange server in a parent domain host
mailboxes for accounts in a child domain ?

If so, How about for an account in a domain that is not a child but has an
exernal trust to the domain with Exchange ?

Trying to get back to a single user account model for 4 banks with their own
domains (and forests) that all use a single Exchange server (and other
services) in a 5th domain which is a shared data center. There is now
separate users accounts for everybody in the 5th domain just for Exchange.

Thank You,

- Users in Child domains/domains in other Tress in the Forest: yes, need to
run DomainPrep in those Domains, create a RUS object pointing to a DC in
those Domains.
- Users in different (external/NT 4 Domain): yes, will need trusts.

In Active Directory Users and Computers,  will the "Exchange tasks" be
present in the 4 domains that have the trust to the Domain with Exchange ?

Hi,

You will only have exchange tasks when exchange system manager (or the
complete exchange server) is installed.

You won't be able to create mailboxes from the trusted domains unless you
grant these at least exchange view administrator and other permissions in
the domain where exchange is installed.

I assume these permissions granted to the particular adminstrator in the
trusted doman who is using Active Directory Users and Computers to create a
mailbox.

I know how to set up the trusts.  How easy is it to get the Exchange
configuration setup.  Is it as simple as Bharat's post above ?
