Hi,
Just done a simple migration from Mx5.5 to MX2003, 1 MX 5.5 site with 3 MX
servers, moved all mailboxes onto one new windows 2003 Adv & MX Ent(running
1 x.400 & 1 SMTP connection, hosting 1500 mailboxes)server, all works OK
except that the server was spec up by a company & it has 16GB of physical
memory, my question can Exchange Enterprise utilise this memory space or was
it just a waste of money.
Was this a waste of money and should we have a server running windows 2003
standard & Exchange 2003 ent
I have edited boot.ini with the /3GB /USERVA=3030
Set registy entry for HeapDeCommitFreeBlockThreshold to 40000
Regards

"16GB of physical memory, my question can Exchange Enterprise utilise this

Read:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827281/en-us
"Exchange Server does not support instancing, Physical Address Extension
(PAE), or Address Windowing Extensions (AWE). Therefore, 4 GB of RAM is the
maximum amount of memory that an Exchange Server computer can efficiently
use."
Draw your own conclusions.

Hold onto it. You can use it when you upgrade to Exchange 12.

One thing to be careful of: For Exchange 2003, you don't want to load the
PAE kernal.l If windows detects more than 4GB of RAM, and you don't use
/NOPAE in the boot.ini, it'll load the PAE Kernel. If you'r running SP1 and
don't use the /NoExecute=optout option in the boot.ini, it'll load the PAE
Kernel.
I'd recommend the following boot.ini options:
/3GB /USERVA=3030 /NOPAE /NoExecute=optout
