Al-Taee - 10 Nov 2005 14:31 GMT Hi,
These are part of the exchange errors that i got it (red ones) using Microsoft Best Practices Analyzer Tool:
Database "Public Folder Store" on server has never had a full online backup.
Database "Mailbox Store" accomdates (47) mailbox anf never had a full online backup.
Any Idea how can i backup and solve these error please? I have to start the information store service everyday manually
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 10 Nov 2005 18:12 GMT You should be running an Exchange aware backup and backup the databases every evening. If you currently do not have an Exchange aware backup then until you get one you can stop the Information store from running and make an offline backup of the Exchange databases however as this is a point in time backup it is very difficult to restore any log files to this. Also you will need to use eseutil /mh to check that the database you are backing up is consistent (i.e. all the data that is present in the log files is also present in the database). To avoid having to follow these manual steps then ensure you have a backup solution that supports Exchange.

What do you mean by aware backup? Can i do the backup using windows backup?
Iam new to Exchange server and if you have a guide or article regarding the backup so please refer it to me.
By the way, my boss order Veritas backup for exchange server so is that ok.
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 10 Nov 2005 22:50 GMT You need a backup program that is aware of Microsoft Exchange otherwise it will try and backup the databases, log files and files that are messages in the queues and it will fail saying that the file was in use. By having an Exchange aware backup program it will know how to backup Exchange files. Once you have Veritas then you can backup Exchange and you will not need to backup the Exchange folders. Also make sure your anti virus programs are Exchange aware and also any file based Anti-Virus software does not scan the Exchange folders as it can cause issues with Exchange. Have a look at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328841

I have Symantec Mail Security antivirus and my mailbox are for internal use but i need to start the information store everyday and may be the backup will avoid this problem.
How i can avoid scanning Exchange folders using symantec mail security?
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 11 Nov 2005 15:30 GMT To work out what is stopping the mailbox stores have a look at the application event log and see if there is anything logged by the MSExchangeIS during the evening.

Is this the only Exchange server in the Organisation ? If not, do any others exhibit the same behaviour? Which server is the Global Catalog Server located on ? Is there anything logged on this server at about the time that the information store stops ? What other software is running on the Exchange server ?

> Hi Again, > [quoted text clipped - 100 lines] > > Thanks, Al-Taee - 14 Nov 2005 09:08 GMT Hi Paul,
Is this the only Exchange server in the Organisation ? If not, do any others exhibit the same behaviour? Yes, the only exchange server in the Organisation.
Which server is the Global Catalog Server located on ? The DC is the Global Catalog which is not the exchange server.
Is there anything logged on this server at about the time that the information store stops ? I dont understand your question but this service was working good in the begging then it stoped.
What other software is running on the Exchange server ? Symantec mail security and Antispyware.
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 14 Nov 2005 14:44 GMT Is the anti spyware scheduled to run during the evening at all ? Can you try disabling Symantec mail security overnight to see if this is causing the issue ?
Paul
> Hi Paul, > [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > > Thanks, Al-Taee - 14 Nov 2005 15:31 GMT I dont think the problem from the spyware because i installed before few days and the problem before months.
I will disable the symantec mail security tommorow but do you the problem from it?
Thanks,
Al-Taee - 15 Nov 2005 07:50 GMT I couldnt disable the mail security antivirus or honestly i didnt know from where?
Do you think this is the problem?
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 17 Nov 2005 09:45 GMT Very difficult to say however AV is always something that needs to be eliminated as a possible cause for the issue. If you cannot disable it, you can always uninstall it.
If the store is stopping every night then it is more than likely to be an automated process that runs during the evening. One of these is the online maintenance although it is unlikely to be this however what you could do is run some utilities against the stores to check for any possible corruption. How big are your stores ?
Paul

Nothing run during evening because i shutdown the servers at the end of the day.
My store is not big and its about 48 accounts but we are plan to use it for internal issues during the workday but because the information store service we didnt use it.
Do you really think that i have to uninstall the antivirus because i dont think at all my boss will agree because this antivirus for Exchange Server?
Do you want me to send you the whole event viewer of the day?
Thanks,
Al-Taee - 27 Nov 2005 09:00 GMT Any idea ?
Paul Ford - 30 Nov 2005 09:27 GMT So, just to recap, is it the Information Store service stopping or is it the stores that dismount ? They stop every evening, do they stop during the day at all ? If you have a look in the event logs, do they stop at the same time every night ?
Paul
> Any idea ? Al-Taee - 01 Dec 2005 07:45 GMT Hi,
Everyday i turn on the Excahnge server i found the following errors in the EV! So they stop everyday and when i hit the mail box at the IE i got (HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable)?

Paul Ford - 01 Dec 2005 17:49 GMT Al-Taee,
Any reason why you are turning the Exchange server off during the evening ?
Does the system attendant start ? Are any errors reported in the application event log for the system attendant ? Does the information store service, MTA and event services start succesfully ?
Paul
> Hi, > [quoted text clipped - 38 lines] > Thanks, > Al-Taee Al-Taee - 05 Dec 2005 06:53 GMT Hi again,
Yes, we have bad electricity (about 8 hour / day) and my Exchange Server is just for Internal use.
System attendant service doesnt start.
The errors in the application log are:
Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event Category: Topology Event ID: 2104 Date: 12/5/2005 Time: 8:31:25 AM User: N/A Computer: EXCH-01 Description: Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=1816). All the DS Servers in domain are not responding.
Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: General Event ID: 1005 Date: 12/5/2005 Time: 8:31:34 AM User: N/A Computer: EXCH-01 Description: Unexpected error The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Facility: Win32 ID no: c007054b Microsoft Exchange System Attendant occurred.
The information store and MTA doesnt start and what you mean by event services?
Thanks,
Paul Ford - 07 Dec 2005 21:57 GMT Which server is the Global Catalog (GC) server ? Can Exchange ping the GC and vice versa ? Can you connect to a file share from the Exchange server to the GC ?
Regards
Paul
> Hi again, > [quoted text clipped - 34 lines] > > Thanks, Al-Taee - 12 Dec 2005 07:26 GMT DC is the GC Server.
Yes, sure i can ping and when i start the service all the users can use their mailboxs.
Yes, i can.
Thanks,
Mitch - 29 Dec 2005 23:41 GMT Start your DC first and wait for it to come up. Once it is up and all services are up. then start your exchange server and see if this fixes the problem.
