Exchange 2000: How to display mailbox content (read-only) on a web page

We have a mailbox used by an application to deposit messages relevant
to a group of people.
In our environment; not everyone is on Windows, some of the users run
on Linux / Macs.
Our Windows users don't have any issues because they can map this
mailbox in Outlook as read-only and access it with ease.
The users on Linux / Macs can't run Outlook and we would like to find
a way to provide them accessibility to this mailbox.
If possible, use of OWA should also be avoided - it seems it has some
IE dependence.

The problem is: How can we provide our 15 users read-only access to
this mailbox?
I thought the easiest way to do this was to display the content of
this mailbox on a web page.
Is this feasible and how should we about it?
Otherwise, are there any other suggestions - including how to do this
with OWA?
Many thanks in advance.

I think the simplest solution is to turn on POP3 access for the mailbox.
Have you tried this?
There are obviously many POP3 clients for Linux and MAC

Thanks for the prompt reply.
Will ask the question to our Exchange admin - initially tried to
provide IMAP access but it seems this could not be done in a read-only
fashion.
With POP3:
1) Will the emails in the mailbox be safe (i.e. they will not be
deleted?)
2) I understand that POP3 downloads the emails on the client - is this
correct? If so, will a copy of the email always be left on the
mailbox?
Thanks again.

Actually you may use POP3 or IMAP4.  IMAP will give you access to more than
just the inbox, if you have subfolders.

With both you may select to leave a copy of messages on the server.

Our IT guys tried to connect to this mailbox but the only way they
assure me they can connect was by using the credentials of the SELF
user (the user that owns the mailbox). This user allows to delete
emails in this mailbox and one of the key requirements was to provide
IMAP access with read-only rights.

Perhaps we are missing some key points? Also, could this be done with
OWA? Our IT guys tried to subscribe to this mailbox and they could not
make it work with OWA. With an Outlook client it's easy because you
simply open 'Other User's Folder' and if you have permissions then you
can access this mailbox - the problem is providing access to Linux and
Mac users.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

another option to the already described one is to use WebDAV. Using WebDAV
commands like PROPFIND and SEARCH you can enumerate the messages in the
mailbox and display them on your internal website.

The result returned from Exchange is XML.

The MSDN contains examples on how to do this.

Best regards,
Henning Krause
