I tried to setup a new domain on a new SBS server with exchange 2003.
I setup the incoming mail server(POP3 provided by ISP) in POP3 Connector
Manager. I tested with the client joined to the new domain and it can receive
email in Outlook properly.
When I try to setup the outgoing mail server(SMTP provided by ISP), I just
wonder whether I need to create a default SMTP server? And where can I input
the outgoing mail server for the setup?
Hello,
I assume you are connecting your Outlook directly to your Exchange Server,
and not any SMTP/POP3 stuff are you?
I don't know if SBS has a special wizard to this, but on a normal Exchange
2003 server you would open the Exchange System manager, navigate to
Server --> your server --> Protocols --> SMTP --> Virtual Server and hit
"Properties" in the context menu.
The last tab on that dialog (Called "Delivery" or similar) you hit advanced
and enter the address of you ISP into the field labeled Smarthost.
If your ISP requires authentication, you can specify this on the delivery
tab. Click "outgoing security" (or similar).

Thanks for your reply.
At last, i can successfully send out email through exchange server for the
client with proper setup in SMTP connector and changed the Addresss for the
type of 'Email addresses' in 'Properties' of Active Directory Users and
Computers'(the email address domain is not the same as the domain configured).
However, I found that I cannot receive email in the client side. I checked
that the following configurations are displayed:
Services = 'Started' for 'Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes' and
'Microsoft Exchange POP3'
Default POP3 Virtual Server=On
Default SMTP Virtual Server=On
POP3 Connector Manager with ISP Email server + Global mailbox + Routing
group setup for the client mailbox
The client outlook can send out but no email received with no errors. I
found that there are items existed in the client mailboxes on server. The
emails seem to be tracked in exchange server but CANNOT be routed to the
client outlook. Is there any suggestions or checking to the problem?
Best Regards,
Andy
