X400 email address

Is it necessary to have an X400 email address created with for each exchange
contact or exchange user? The reason I ask is that I have a Visual C++
application that creates new contacts, and the code I'm using via ADSI
doesn't create an X400 email address for those contacts, only an SMTP
address. When I'm in the GAL in Outlook, it seems that Outlook somehow makes
up an X400 email address for these contacts, and sometimes the surname
contains a "2" or a "3" at the end when there are multiple users with the
same surname. However, this doesn't seem to create any delivery problems.

Should I be concerned about the lack of X400 email addresses? Or is this ok?
Thanks!

You can safely ignore the X400 part for contacts. As long as the primary
SMTP address works. RUS will generate X.400 addresses automatically even if
you created contacts manually using a script and only populated the smtp
address.
