I have an Exchange 2000 standard server sp3 running on a Windows 2000 Servers
sp3 that is unable to send to a couple of domains. Here is what I have done:
I did an nslookup for the mx records for the domains I'm having problems
with and then telneted into them on port 25 via the dns names. So I can
connect to them on port 25. I checked openrlb.org to see if somehow I'm on
an rbl and I'm not. If I look at the smtp virtual server in the queue for
the domain in question I'll see e-mails sitting there and if I right click
the domain in question and trace to properties it says in the dialog box that
the connection was dropped by the remote host or the remote server did not
respond to a connection attempt.
I looked at the smtp log and below is a little of it. My question about the
smtp log is why does it have a - 0 after each of the commands like ehlo 0,
and rcpt - 0. Shouldn't it be ehlo - 250 and mail - 250. I have lots with
the 250 at the end, but there is a bunch like the ones listed below.
Pocketmail.com is one of the domains I'm having problems sending to. Thank
you for your assistance.

Do a telnet and simulate the entire conversation such as..
HELO
MAIL FROM: rg@yourdomain.com
RCPT TO: postmaster@rcptdomain.com
DATA
subject: test
.
Do it at the server. Check and ensure that the DNS settings is correct, that
means you are using the correct DNS server.
If you can't do a complete telnet.. you should receive an error and that
usually tell you a few things.
