One of my clients had to replace their hard drive. After
installing the new drive and all the operatings system etc
etc, I setup OUTLOOK to connect to the Exchange server. I
thought all the clients info (inbox,calendar,contacts....)
would return. It did not. I do not understand or know what
I can do to get this info back.

If this client was set up to use a local PST file for delivery, the data was
removed from the Exchange server. Is the old hard drive still functional at
all?

No the hard drive is gone. The user was originally not
setup to use a local pst file. However, I was not there
for the reload of the system and setup of exchange and I
now notice that personal folders is pointing to the c:
drive.
I thought the data on the server would still be there and
what do I need to do to point this user back to her old
data?

Are you entirely confident that this did not change? I find it hard to
believe that the mail just disappeared on its own. Usual culprit is a PST
file - or, if only the inbox is empty, someone connected via POP and
downloaded/removed mail.

There should be no personal folders in use at all (well, if at all, only for
archive).

If it isn't in the mailbox and you can't find the PST file, it's gone. What
kind of backups do you have? Hard to say how far back in time you'd have to
go, as you have no idea when the setup was changed. Don't suppose the user
every sync'd to a handheld/PDA, eh?

You may be up the creek here. Who configured/supported the workstation? By
default, only the Exchange server & Outlook Address Book services get loaded
in the mail profile when its set up to use Exchange - PSTs have to either be
added manually, or someone has to modify an Internet Mail profile to include
Exchange - which won't change the delivery location to the mailbox.

As I indicated earlier...I am not an Exchange guru...not
even close. I thought all the data (inbox, calendar
entries, contacts, etc) were stored on the server. IS
their a tool to view the contenst of mailboxes on the
server as an Admin. How does it associate the NEW user as
setup on the new hardrive with the old user mailbox? I
assume it is strickly thru the Userid. If so I am
confused as to why the data did not return. When you say
setup for a local PST file...can you tell me were that
would be done and how. Thanks for all your help....

It is, if the Outlook profile is set up with just Exchange, and nobody adds
a PST file for delivery.

You've already opened the mailbox....if you don't see the stuff, it isn't
there. Try in OWA, too.

Not sure what you mean by this.

Because someone may have had a PST file selected for delivery or used POP to
connect to the server.

In Outlook, as I said before... You can't really find out after the fact how
this was done if the old profile/drive is gone.

Sorry I can't give you better news.
